EAAC Athletes bring home the medals at North District Championships

Following the long winter, we headed to Queens Park in Inverness for the first major competition of the outdoor season, North District Championships. Our athletes showed their coaches how their efforts over the winter training season have not been wasted.

We had a fantastic two days of competition. Well done to the 12 athletes who competed, and came home with 12 medals (8 for Lauren’s Group, 1 for Kelvin/Chris’ Group and 3 for Scott's Group), lots of PBs and lots of sunburn.

Fantastic well done to our coaches, Euan, Chris, Kelvin, Lauren and Scott put in a huge amount of time and effort to this club and this weekend has shone the fruits of their labour, the children win the medals, but you give them the confidence, conditioning and lots more help. Thank you coaches!!

And well done to all our athletes.. here's to an exciting summer ahead!!!

...and that's a wrap

After a long, dark and cold winter, the indoor athletic season ended with the National Indoor Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. A good starter for heading towards the outdoor season, our athletes took it all in their stride, even with the disadvantage of training facilities in the winter months. An impressive show from the athletes, who have embraced their training and continue to shine.

Well done to all our athletes!

U13G

A tough day for Erin, with all events in one day. However, the long journey down to Glasgow didn’t stop Erin pull out some amazing performances, smashing all her pb’s in every event.

60mH (10.38), Shot Put (6.40m) and 200m (30.01). This gained her a bronze medal in the 60mH and a club record in the shot put.

Another youngster and relative newcomer to the Emirates Arena, Charlotte took on the 800m, finishing with a blistering lap in 2:51.15, setting her a new PB, and setting another Club Record.

U15B

Quentin stormed a brilliant pb in Shot Putt, 10.13m, which earned him a 3rd place and a bronze medal . The 60m saw him run 8.06, a PB and making the semi-final. The 200m saw him set a club record with 27.68, in what can only be described as a very tough heat.

U20W

Lauren took on the 400m and ran a blistering 57.51 for a new PB and then ran a fantastic final to gain her second place and a silver medal

Lauren then competed just a week after her silver medal win, with a shot at the Senior Championships, 400m category. Finishing her heat second with a time of 57.78, she then finished an impressive 4th in the final.

After a break from jumping, Lexi took on the TJ, to win herself a bronze medal with a 10.69m jump. She then took on 60mH, running 9.90 for a PB and 4th in a very tough heat, finishing off with a long Jump of 4.74m.

Ava threw a Shot Put of 8.23m getting her an 8th in the final. Straight off to the 60m she ran 8.52 coming 4th in a tough heat. In the 200m, she took 28.05 in another tough heat, but enjoying the competition after a return from injury.

U20M

In the U20 Champs, Tom tackled the High Jump, and stormed the 60mH, 8.80 for 2nd place and a silver medal . He finished off with a run in the 400m, 53.55, a PB, and improved his own club record. Coming back a week later to compete up an age group in the Senior Men category, Tom took on the 60mH again with a time of 9.12.

Andrew – competed up an age group in the Senior Championships, nearing his pb in long jump with a best jump of 5.69m, then taking to the triple jump with a jump of 12.34m and a bronze medal.

EAAC athletes take on the Indoor Relay Championships in Glasgow

Two teams recently made the long journey down to Glasgow to compete in the Indoor Relay Championships.

Our U13 Girls team, Abigail, Erin R, Holly and Romina, partook in the National Indoor Relay Championships a few weekends ago.
Only a second time visit to the Emirates for Abigail, Erin and Romina and Holly’s first ever competition – what a great way to show off our infectious Elgin AAC spirit!

Always a fierce competition, our girls finished the 4x200m relay in 2:10.42 and set a Club Record!

Our Senior team of Ava, Lauren, Lexi, and Tamsin were up next. The ever-competitive Senior category saw our girls run 1:47.42, just missing out on a place in the finals (0.3 seconds), but setting a new Club Record!

Huge thanks to coach Scott for supporting both teams on the day.

Well done to all girls!

EAAC athletes change their vests but not their standards!

Our EAAC athletes changed their vests recently to compete for their universities and schools.

Tom and Tamsin competed for their universities at the Scottish Student Championships.

Tom took on the 60mH coming 4th and High Jump, winning silver with a pb of 1.70m. He was also a part of the relay team who won bronze.

Tamsin competed in the 60m and 400m making the finals of both and winning bronze in the 400m with a seasons best performance.

The Scottish Schools Championships allowed some of our other athletes to compete for their secondary schools.

Andrew took part in the 200m, making the semi final, and the long jump, where he jumped to a pb of 5.92 and a bronze medal.

Lauren made the finals of both the 400m and 200m, narrowly missing out on medals for both. A LOT of sprinting over two days, (1600m altogether!).

Ava took part in the 60m, and won a bronze medal in the shot put with a new pb of 9.17m.

Well done everyone! You represented your schools and universities really well and as usual, we are extremely proud of you all!

Senior Athletes take a jump into coaching skills

3 of our senior athletes, Andrew, Ava and Lexi, attended a Run, Jump, Throw course along with coach Kelvin and teachers from Moray primary schools. The Scottish Athletics course run by Active Schools is aimed at promoting athletics in Moray by encouraging local primary school teachers to include athletics as part of their curriculum.

Coach Kelvin said "To me it was clear the knowledge all 3 have gained from the club surpassed the level required for the course. The manner they conducted themselves while demonstrating was confident and friendly, showing they were clearly at ease with the subject. Their pro active attitude to the course showed in their eagerness to participate. To have this level of poise at such a young age is incredible."

Well done Andrew, Lexi, Ava and Kelvin for adding to the skills available to EAAC members.

Indoor Open Graded 18th January 2025

16 EAAC athletes made the very long journey down to Glasgow to compete at the Emirates Arena in the Indoor Open Graded event on 18th January 2025. A 4AM start for our tired athletes (who made the most of the comfy seats on the Maynes bus!) didn't stop the athletes giving 100% at the event. Some were competing for the first time, not letting the intimidation of the venue used for last year's indoor world championships affect their performances. PB's were made, lessons were learnt, and team spirit was high. As usual, EAAC athletes demonstrated politeness and decorum that was admirable and gracious in such young people, and the support for their team-mates was exceptional, making us very proud of them.

Results to follow....
