What is the RAM League?
The Grampian Athletics League, which is currently sponsored by RAM Tubulars, started in 1980 with a series of four fixtures involving AAAC, Banchory AAC, Elgin AAC and Peterhead AAC. It is a very friendly league which encourages grassroots athletics.
Over time it has evolved to include more clubs and split into two geographical areas which are represented by the following clubs:
1. A NORTH DISTRICT: Inverness Harriers, Elgin AAC, Ross County AAC, Moray Roadrunners, Lochaber, Caithness and Nairn AAC.
2. AN EAST DISTRICT: Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, Aberdeen AAC, Arbroath AAC, Ellon and Peterhead AAC, Banchory, Fife, Montrose and District AAC and Perth Strathtay Harriers.
What Happens in the RAM League?
The RAM Athletics League is for all competitors from U11 up to Senior categories. If you are a member of EAAC, you will most likely have the opportunity to compete with your club in this league.
This year (2024), the three North District Meets will all take place in Inverness (on the 27th April, 9th June and 7th of July), as well as the final (which will include athletes and clubs from North and East Districts) on the 25th August 2024. It is a great Club Event where we can all show our support for our fellow EAAC Athletes.
How Does Scoring Work? Are there medals or trophies?
Athletes compete for points at these Meets, not for medals. The winner of each event will get 8 points, the second place will get 7 points, the third place will get 6 points, the fourth place will get 5 points etc. These points will be added together for each age group. At the final, trophies will be given to each winning category e.g. U11B / U11G/U13G/U13B/U15B/U15G/U17W/U17M/SW/SM
There will also be an overall award for the winning club.
There is also an award for the Best Field Athlete and Best Track Athlete of the Year. Holly won the Best Track Athlete whilst representing EAAC last year, Anna won the Best Field Athlete whilst representing EAAC last year.
Elgin finished the league in Second Place overall last year.
How do I participate in these events?
Your coach will let you know when this event is coming up and will help the organising coach to identify the events for you. You do not need to do anything on Entry Central or Scottish Athletics to enter this competion. Sometimes, in these events, there is the opportunity to try out new events as we try to maximise the points for EAAC.
Anything Else I Need to Know?
Sometimes parents will be asked for their help in Field Events. This is always under the direction of officials and is a lovely way to get closer to the action or learn a bit more about Athletics.
EAAC look forward to your participation in the RAM League this year - it's lots of fun.
